NOW OPEN FROM WEDNESDAY 7TH SEPTEMBER 2022. DO COME AND JOIN US.
The Alcester Folk Dance Group
The club meets on Wednesday evenings at Great Alne Memorial Hall, Henley Rd, Great Alne B49 6HL (see maps at bottom of page) from 8 - 10pm, during school autumn and spring term time. There is a free car park with ample space close to the hall.
Everyone is made very welcome and full instructions are given by the 'caller', so you don't have to be an expert. The emphasis is more towards a happy social evening with friends rather than achieving a perfect 'do-si-do your partner' or other fancy footwork. You don't need a partner; many of the members are 'singles', and the dances are designed to get everyone involved.
For part of the evening our resident band provides lively and varied music, under the leadership of one of several experienced barn dance band leaders. The musicians arrive at 7pm, sheet music is provided and our instruments include fiddles, recorders, guitars, piano, accordions, mandolins, ukulele. Here is a short sample of a tune we play - if it's your sort of music we'd like you to join us! To hear an example of the recorded music we use, click here
There is no membership fee to join the club. We each pay £4 per evening; this also covers the cost of the refreshements provided at the interval.
